Common Area Maintenance

Residents are reminded that it is illegal and dangerous to feed the alligators that live in Sun City Hilton Head’s ponds. Violators could face up to a $2,500 fine if caught feeding an alligator.

If an alligator sees humans as a food source, it has a reason to approach them and could become aggressive, meaning it will have to be removed from the community and destroyed. Children and pets should not go near the water’s edge of lagoons.

Alligators in a pond or lagoon are a sign of a healthy ecosystem and do not represent a problem with the fish. An alligator in Sun City’s lagoons or on a bank of a lagoon is not an aggressive alligator.

If you think you have an aggressive alligator on your property, contact Common Area Maintenance at (843) 705-4061 during business hours or Security at (843) 705-4083 after hours. They will review the situation and determine the best course of action.
