Chat With The Board
"Chat with the Board" is a new opportunity for residents to sit and chat with one or more members of the Sun City Board of Directors. These informal sessions will be held the second Friday of each month and are open to all residents of Sun City. Residents may ask questions about Sun City governance, policies, or just discuss what is on their minds. The first "chat" will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 10 in Pinckney Hall, May River Room. Watch for more information and plan to join us. Bring your questions, curiosity and suggestions. There will be seating for 30.

Election Packets Available August 1
Election packets for Neighborhood Representative and Alternate Neighborhood Representative candidates will be available at Palmetto Commons and online at this website beginning Wednesday, August 1.

Riverbend Pier Refurbishment
The Riverbend pier will be closed for about four weeks beginning Monday, July 30 for replacement of all wood planks and railings.

Coming Soon: New Argent Lakes Day Spa
Residents will soon have a new place to get pampered when work is complete at the new Argent Lakes Day Spa. Beginning Monday, July 30, construction work will begin to reconfigure the Lakehouse office space to create a lobby and two private rooms for spa treatments. Work may impact limited shower use during the first week. No other related closures are expected. Stay tuned to eNews Weekly for more information on Argent Lakes Day Spa.

Fencing Work To Begin On Hwy. 278
Work will begin on replacing all fencing along U.S. Hwy. 278 next week. This project is estimated to last about six weeks. No road closures are expected during this time.

Community Invited to Celebrate Sun City’s Award from 55places.com
11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 in the Lakehouse, Ballroom
Exciting news – Sun City Hilton Head has been named the Best 55+ Community of 2018 by 55places.com, the No. 1 active adult community resource! This is the second consecutive year that the community has been named the best out of over 2,000 communities across the U.S. All residents are invited to the unveiling of the award and a celebration.

Second Show Added: Tickets for Beatles vs Stones Go On Sale August 1
Because of the high demand and record ticket sales for the first show featuring Beatles vs Stones: A Musical Showdown, residents have a chance to get tickets for a second show, going on sale at 8 a.m. Wednesday, August 1. The second show will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 14 at Magnolia Hall. Tickets, $28, are available for purchase only at the Lifestyle Services desk in Pinckney Hall.

IT Work Scheduled For Saturday
Crews will be working in Riverbend Lodge, the Lakehouse and Hidden Cypress Saturday, July 28 with work scheduled to begin around 8 a.m. They will be installing network drops for the display TVs, and will be working in the ceilings and hallways. Please use caution when in the area.

Facilities Management

Road Testing Work Continues 

Please be aware of roadwork that will be ongoing throughout the community during upcoming weeks. All roads will be tested by engineers for upcoming maintenance. Workers will be taking samples from the roads, scanning for cracks and measuring the thickness of the roads. This work will allow the Community Association to create a road map for maintenance over the next five years. There will be no road closures during this work, but please be cautious while driving during this time.

It may not be May, but it’s still a perfect time to celebrate Sun City! Due to inclement weather, Mayfest was postponed until August. Plan to bring your lawn chairs and spend the evening with us! Enjoy live music by The Motowners and refreshments from the local food trucks at the event. If you already purchased your tickets, save them for the August event. Tickets are $8.

Dog Days of Summer World Class Dog Frisbee Show
11 a.m.–3 p.m. September 5 at Town Square
Tickets Go On Sale August 1
Come see the amazing Disc-Connected K9’s Frisbee dog team! Enjoy 30-minute dog shows beginning at 12:30 p.m., as well as music and food trucks for a fun-filled day. Tickets, $16, go on sale August 1.

Carroll Brown’s Irish Celebration
6:30 p.m. September 9 at Magnolia Hall
Tickets Go On Sale August 1
Experience music and traditional dances from the Emerald Isle! This event features music by the Carroll Brown Band, Hungry Monks, Seven Nations and a performance by the Legacy Irish Dancers. The $20 ticket price includes one free Irish coffee served at Pinckney Hall before the show. Tickets go on sale August 1.

Additional On-Site Veterans Affairs Counseling Hours For All Sun City Veterans
The Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Office has added additional on-site hours to meet with Sun City veterans who reside in Beaufort and Jasper counties. Beaufort County Veterans Affairs personnel are available for appointments from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, and the fourth Thursday of each month at the Lakehouse.
 
No walk-ins accepted; you must have an appointment. Veterans, spouses or family members in Sun City can make an appointment by calling Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Officer Carl Wedler at (843) 255-6880. These appointments are open to all Sun City residents who reside in Beaufort or Jasper County. For any other questions, feel free to contact the Sun City Veterans Association, listed in the Chartered Club News section of SunSations.

Sundancers Summer Dance Classes for August
The Sundancers club is conducting a variety of dance classes in August. Anyone is welcome to attend, and classes are suitable for beginners. No special attire is required, but participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Classes are $2 each and most are held in the Magnolia Hall rehearsal room.

Eat Smart, Live Longer Hosts Nationally Known Doctor
The Eat Smart, Live Longer Club presents the nationally known Dr. Alan Goldhamer, director of the True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, California at 7 p.m. August 16 at Magnolia Hall. His presentation will focus on how chemicals added to our food (salt, oil and sugar) fool our internal systems and lead to obesity, and the disease of dietary excess including high blood pressure, diabetes and autoimmune disorders. Open to all Sun City residents.

Sign Up for Introduction to Tennis Clinic
Registration is open for the Sun City Tennis Association’s Introduction to Tennis Clinic, 12:30–2:30 p.m. August 25 on courts 13 and 14. This free clinic is open to all Sun City residents who are new or need a refresher lesson on tennis. Space is limited to the first 16 registrants.
