Purrysburg Fitness Center to Close Monday for Renovations

Renovations to the Purrysburg Fitness Center locker rooms will begin Monday, June 5 with the work estimated to continue for about four weeks. The fitness center will be closed during construction. It is suggested, if possible, to use the other fitness centers in the afternoons when there is greater availability for most of the cardio equipment. There will be no orientations at Purrysburg Fitness Center in June.

Hours for the Indoor Pool and Aerobics Room Only

Monday - Friday 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. Staff available.
Saturday 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Staff on property from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.
for indoor pool and aerobics use.
Self-use from 1–6 p.m. Indoor pool only.
Swim with a buddy!
Aerobics room unavailable.
Sunday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Self-use all day, indoor pool only.
Aerobics room unavailable.

The group water and land exercises classes will continue. The land classes will check-in at the front desk and go directly to the aerobics room as the entire gym will be closed and blocked off.

The water classes will check-in with a staff member at the back pool door closest to the croquet greens. Cash and member charges will be available for class payment at the back pool door. If you plan to pay by credit card, you will need to pay at the front desk, take your receipt and show it to the staff member at the back pool door.

Interval Circuit Training (ICT) will not be available during the renovation. After much discussion, it was not possible to move the sessions. Instead, receive a free group exercise card to attend any of the group exercise classes for free at any location. ICT cards will be activated when the center reopens. ICT trainers will be working as trainers on the floor at the other fitness centers during the times they normally would work the ICT program.

The Purrysburg Indoor Pool will remain open as so many residents rely on that pool. Access the pool through the back doors, and staff will be on site from 6 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. –1 p.m. Saturday. The indoor pool will be open for self-use hours from 1– 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday. Restrooms will be available at the Logo Building or the Yemassee Crafts Center, so please plan ahead!

Beaufort County Bookmobile Stops in Sun City Monday

The new Beaufort County Library Bookmobile will begin making regular stops in Sun City from 1–2 p.m. every other Monday in the Pinckney Hall parking lot. Its first visit is scheduled for Monday, June 5.

The bookmobile can hold up to 2,500 items, and its shelves are stocked with newly released popular fiction titles in large and regular print, biographies and nonfiction, local history titles, audiobooks and DVDs. The other half of the bookmobile is loaded with juvenile and teen fiction. In addition to checking out and returning items, other bookmobile services include requesting items from library branches, picking up holds and requested materials, and applying for a library card.

Residents will need to show a valid Beaufort County library card to check items out from the bookmobile. Jasper County residents may use the bookmobile by purchasing an out-of-county library card for $30/year.

Beaufort County Library originally operated a bookmobile from 1963 to 1993, but a lack of funding brought the program to an end. The library was able to purchase a new bookmobile in 2016 to resume service in 2017. Sun City is one of the 40 stops across the county as part of the revived program. For more information,
