Applications Accepted For Lifestyles Task Force
As announced at Wednesday’s Room Reservations Meeting, the Board of Directors has approved the formation of a Lifestyles Task Force to assist the Lifestyle Services Department in revising procedures and regulations for room and amenity usage, among other responsibilities. The task force will include seven resident members and two representatives from the Property Utilization Task Force.
 
Interested residents can
click here to download and complete an application to serve on the Lifestyles Task Force. Applications are also available on the community website. Submit your completed application to Executive Assistant Lyndsey Butler by Tuesday, June 5. Interviews will be conducted June 11-15, and members will be notified June 18. More information about the task force is outlined in the Room Reservation Meeting PowerPoint.

Memorial Day Office Closures
Community Association offices will be closed Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day. All fitness centers will be open 8 a.m.–2 p.m. The Logo Building will operate with normal hours. Guests will be free at fitness centers with valid guest ID cards Saturday, May 26 through Monday, May 28.
 
Waste Management Holiday Schedule
Waste Management routes will not run Monday, May 28 and will run one day behind during the week for all routes. For example, Monday routes will be collected Tuesday, Tuesday routes will be collected Wednesday, etc.

Please remember to obtain a gate pass for friends or relatives who will be visiting your home during the Memorial Day holiday. Simply reserve your guest pass by calling the Main Gate at (843) 705-4035 and providing the guests’ names, your name and activity number. Riverbend residents may call (843) 379-5528 for a guest pass.

Celebrate Sun City at Mayfest This Weekend!
5 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Lakehouse
It’s almost time to celebrate Sun City! Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an out-of-this world concert by The Motowners, plus great food from food trucks and cold beer, wine and other drinks. Golf cart parking is suggested. There will be a free shuttle from Pinckney Hall. Gates and cash bar open at 5 p.m.; band starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8.

Watching The Weather
Lifestyle Services is monitoring the weather forecast for this weekend to determine whether to reschedule the Mayfest celebration planned for Saturday, May 26. A decision will be made by 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, and ticketholders should check their email for an announcement should the event be postponed.

Fitness Center Schedule for New Equipment Installation
Fitness centers will experience closures May 29-31 for the installation of new fitness equipment. Please note the following schedule:

Purrysburg Fitness Center: Closed 5–8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 for extraction of old cardio equipment. Entry to the Purrysburg indoor pool will be accessible through the back doors only beginning at 5 p.m.
 
Purrysburg Fitness Center: Closed 6 a.m.–8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30. There will be no group exercise classes. Entry to the Purrysburg indoor pool will be accessible through the back doors only.
 
Hidden Cypress Fitness Center: Closed 5–8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 for extraction of old cardio equipment.
 
Purrysburg Fitness Center: Reopens to normal hours Thursday, May 31 with new cardio equipment.
 
Hidden Cypress and Lakehouse Fitness Center: Closed 6 a.m.–8 p.m. Thursday, May 31.

New Health and Wellness Newsletter Debuts June 1
Healthy living will soon be easier to achieve as a brand-new health and wellness electronic newsletter, launches June 1. This newsletter, City Fit, will include upcoming programs and classes, healthy recipes, information from Health and Wellness staff and more. All eNews Weekly subscribers receive it on the first of every month.
 
City Fit is the newest newsletter is a complete redesign of all of the Community Association’s electronic newsletters. The first redesign debuted in April with City Life from Lifestyle Services. Stay tuned to see new versions of more of your favorite newsletters!

Don't Miss National Senior Fitness & Sports Day
8:30 a.m.–Noon Wednesday, May 30 at the Pavilion and Town Square
Join the Health and Wellness Department and celebrate National Senior Fitness & Sports Day. Participate in the complimentary activities planned to help you get active today so that you can feel healthier and happier tomorrow! Please remember to bring water. The event will conclude with a motivational guest speaker and the presentation of the first-ever “Super-ager” awards. There will be vendors with food and merchandise available for purchase.

Event Closures 
Town Square, including Pinckney Hall, tennis, bocce and croquet courts, and the Yemassee Crafts Center, will be closed from 8–9 a.m. during this event. Security will block all entrances to Town Square from 8–9 a.m., except one entrance across from Palmetto Commons. Participants for the walk/run event arriving before 8 a.m. can use any Town Square entrance.

Space Still Available For June Irrigation Seminars
1 p.m. and 3 p.m. June 7 at the Lakehouse Ballroom
Argent II residents can learn about irrigation at an upcoming free seminar offered in two sessions in June. Sign up beginning Monday, May 21 at Palmetto Commons to reserve your seat. Space is limited to 40 spots per session. Future seminars are planned for September.

Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) representatives will be in Sun City neighborhoods locating water meters with a GPS unit for the duration of the summer. Please do not remove flags marking the meters.

Spring Cleaning in Sun City
It’s time for some spring cleaning to add to the curb appeal of your property! Please take the time to perform any necessary maintenance to your property. Alterations to your home’s exterior may require a modification application, so be sure to refer to the Design Guidelines before making any changes. Call Community Services at (843) 705-4000 with any questions. Refer to the following checklists to help get you started.
 
Home Exterior Checklist:

  • Clean off mildew and dirt buildup
  • Clean windows, doors and screens; check for any repairs
  • Clean walkways, driveways, patios, grills and outside patio furniture
  • Clean gutters and downspouts
  • Paint shutters, garage doors, entry doors, etc. to improve curb appeal
 Yard Checklist:
  • Start mowing the yard
  • Apply mulch or pine straw and remove weeds
  • Prune and fertilize trees and shrubs
  • Remove all dead foliage
  • Aerate and dethatch
  • Patch bare spots
  • Resume watering schedule; consult with your landscaper for an appropriate schedule and duration

Got Paint?
Overall maintenance of residential mailboxes is required. If your mailbox post needs a fresh coat of paint, stop by Facilities Management in the Okatie Maintenance Yard between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to pick up free paint. You may bring your own container, but it is not necessary.  

The Sun City Woodworkers Guild will paint or make repairs to mailboxes, from post to metal mailbox, at a small charge. Call the Woodshop at (843) 705-2968 to schedule.

Fire Alarm Inspections
Fire alarm inspections will be conducted in community buildings on Tuesday, May 29. The schedule is as follows:
Magnolia Hall: 9–10 a.m.
Argent Lakes Clubhouse: 10–11:30 a.m.
Argent Lakes Golf Shop: 11:30 a.m.–Noon

Golf

Golf Course Fishing Tournaments
The Fishing & Hunting Club has received approval from the Board of Directors and Golf Maintenance to hold two, one-day fishing tournaments when the golf courses are closed for maintenance. The tournaments will be Tuesday, May 29 at Okatie Creek and Thursday, June 7 at Hidden Cypress. The tournaments are limited to 20 participants who will be using golf carts to fish the various lagoons. The participants will abide by golf course regulations for the use of golf carts. This is a courtesy advisory to let residents know fishermen will be on the courses during the closures. These club members have received special permission for these tournaments, and the golf courses are not open to other fishermen.

Memorial Weekend Military Softball Tournament
The Sun City Travel Softball Teams will host the Memorial Weekend Military Softball Tournament Saturday, May 26 at the Sun City Softball Field. All Sun City residents and friends are invited to attend. Free event with food available for purchase. Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. and all proceeds will benefit the Parris Island and Hunter Army Air Field charities of choice.

New Location For SCVA Memorial Day Ceremony
The Sun City Veterans Association will hold its the annual Memorial Day ceremony 9 a.m. Monday, May 28 at Magnolia Hall. The location has been changed from the Magnolia Hall parking lot to inside Magnolia Hall due to possible rain. Guest speaker U.S. Army Lt. Gen. (ret) Guy C. Swan III will discuss “On Behalf of a Grateful Nation.” The Sun City Color Guard, Bluffton JRTOC cadet marchers, Sun City Singers, Veterans Association marchers and more will perform. All Sun City residents are invited to attend.

Dog & Pet Lovers’ Club Lowcountry Boil
The Dog & Pet Lovers’ Club is hosting a Lowcountry boil catered by Hawg Wild from 4–6 p.m. June 2 at the Town Square Pavilion. Sun City residents, their friends and well-behaved pets are invited. This event will include door prizes, games and special guests. Cost is $12 for club members and $20 for non-members. For reservation forms, email

Beaufort County Councilman Jerry Stewart Speaks in Sun City
Sun City ROMEO will host Beaufort County Councilman Jerry Stewart at 7:30 a.m. June 6 at The Clubhouse at Okatie Creek. All Sun City residents are welcome to attend. Learn to Dance at the Sundancers Club Summer Classes
The Sundancers club is conducting a variety of dance classes in June, July and August. Anyone is welcome to attend, and classes are suitable for beginners. No special attire is required, but participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Classes are $2 each and most are held in the Magnolia Hall rehearsal room.
