Poa Annua on Greens
Golf Maintenance is currently treating some greens and areas of some Sun City golf courses for poa annua, a type of weed. Three applications of pre-emergent were applied on all greens in the fall of 2017. This deterred the first cycle of germination through late fall, but after the January snowfall and recent precipitation, the plant has had some significant growth. Herbicide applications in February and March had limited success due to cooler weather. Golf maintenance will continue herbicide applications as warmer weather continues.

Poa annua is a winter weed that will fade out with the onset of warmer temperatures because it cannot sustain and contend with the Bermuda grass. Meanwhile, Golf Maintenance will adjust mowing heights on the greens to try and compensate for the bumpiness as the Poa annua seeds out.
