Annual Meeting of the Membership Airing Now on SCTV

Catch a rebroadcast of the Annual Meeting of the Membership airing now on Sun City TV. The meeting held on Wednesday, November 16 in Magnolia Hall includes results from the Sun City elections, a recap of the Finance Committee presentation, and the results of the vote from the 2017 Budget and Annual Homeowner Assessment, as recommended by the Finance Committee. Troon Golf is excited to announce that it has re-opened the online Golf Survey that was distributed in October. Troon hopes to garner more participation to better understand your thoughts on the golf amenities at Sun City Hilton Head. Please take a moment to fill out the brief online survey by clicking here. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. will celebrate Frank Sinatra on his 101st birthday by performing Ole’ Blue Eyes’ biggest hits and audience favorite Christmas classics when he brings the 2016 Home for the Holidays Tour to Sun City for two unforgettable shows. Landau, who won America’s hearts and the $1 million grand prize on America’s Got Talent, will be joined by special guest Maiya Sykes from NBC TV’s The Voice and Postmodern Jukebox for an evening of Sinatra-style holiday hits and classics from the Great American Songbook, as well as a special salute to Motown.

2017 Funny Business Ticket Sales

You spoke, we listened! Here are a few changes coming to Funny Business in 2017:

  • Tuesday Funny Business shows in Magnolia Hall will start at 7 p.m. beginning in January.
  • Funny Business tickets for 2017 will go on sale the first business day of the month prior to the event date. They will no longer be sold quarterly. January Funny Business tickets are now on sale online and at Lifestyle Services.

Holiday Open House and Tree Lighting

Join your Sun City Community Association for holiday cheer and socializing at the annual Palmetto Commons Open House from 3–5 p.m. December 7 at Palmetto Commons. Then at 6 p.m., head outside for the lighting of Sun City’s beautiful holiday tree, located in the circle between Pinckney Hall and Magnolia Hall. The Sun City Singers will lead the caroling. Complimentary hot chocolate, hot cider and sweets will be served in Pinckney Hall as the Mountain Strings and Sun City Chorus provide holiday music.

Sun City 101 Changes for 2017
There are two more Sun City 101 sessions in 2016 at 10 a.m. Mondays, December 12 and 19 in Pinckney Hall. Reserve your seat before these sessions are full! Then, Sun City 101 is moving to Wednesdays in 2017 and will meet twice a month. Upcoming dates are January 11 and 25; February 8 and 22; March 8 and 22; April 12 and 26; and May 10 and 24. New and longtime residents are welcome to attend any of these orientations to learn more about your community. Call Resident Services at (843) 705-4000 to reserve your seat.

Golf Tournament Credits

Golf tournament credits won between January 1 and November 30, 2016 must be spent before December 31. Any golf tournament credits won in December 2016 will carry over to 2017, and those credits will be entered into the credit books the first week of January 2017.

Registration Open for Mission: Slimpossible 2017

Six weeks to a better, healthier you begins in January 2017! Registration is now open for Mission: Slimpossible, a weight management and exercise program. Start your New Year off working with others to create new habits of eating less and exercising more. During the six weeks, class members will be given an unlimited class pass to take any group exercise class at no extra charge. Participants with the most percentage weight loss could win cash prizes! The challenge begins January 11, 2017 and ends February 17, 2017. Classes will be held at the Lakehouse Ballroom every Wednesday and Friday. Cost is $99. Sign up at the Lakehouse Fitness Center. Space is limited.

Pay Beaufort County Taxes in Pinckney Hall

9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 13 and 20 in Pinckney Hall

Beaufort County Treasurer’s Office representatives will accept property tax payments from residents who live in Beaufort County. Residents will be able to pay current and delinquent taxes on all property types, make redemption payments, make installment payments, apply for an installment program and submit address changes. Tax adjustments cannot be performed on-site.

Modifications Committee Meeting Schedule

The Modifications Committee will not meet Tuesday, December 20 or Tuesday, December 27. The committee will not meet on the third Tuesday through the rest of the year. Modification applications that require committee approval must be submitted by noon the Friday prior to the fourth Tuesday of the month.

Common Area Maintenance

Residents can use the Mulching Center, located on Red Dam Road next to the Golf Maintenance Yard, to dispose their yard debris and green waste. The center is open from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. every day. Access to the center is monitored by security cameras, and residents must use their activity cards to gain entrance.

Facilities Management

Nature Trail Information
Crews have removed several downed trees from the Nature Trail, and engineers and an insurance adjuster have observed the damage and are preparing reports. Repairs and completion timelines will follow after Facilities Management considers the recommendations. Completion dates for repairs are undetermined at this time. Your patience is appreciated as teams continue to repair the Nature Trail following the hurricane.

Patsy Murphy had a hole-in-one on hole 17 for 128 yards at Hidden Cypress Golf Course on November 21. She used a 9 wood. This event was witnessed by Mark Carter, Mo Tharp and Martin Shea. Patsy Murphy had another hole-in-one on hole 12 for 138 yards at Hidden Cypress Golf Course on November 26. She used a 5 hybrid. This event was witnessed by Jim Kerr, Bruce Rosenthal and Tom Molinari.
 
Barb Simpson had a hole-in-one on hole 3 for 107 yards at Argent Lakes Golf Course on November 29. She used a 6 iron. This event was witnessed by Chris Putnam, Vicki Vik and Cyndi Whalen.

Sun City residents are invited to share in holiday music as the Sun City Chorus and Concert Band presents A Holiday Fantasia at 7 p.m. December 1-3, and 2:30 p.m. December 4 at Magnolia Hall. Come and hear your friends and neighbors as they perform holiday music you know and love, ranging from the tunes of Irving Berlin to O Holy Night! Tickets are $23, available for purchase at the Magnolia Hall box office from 9–11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Town Square Upbeats and the U.S. Marine Corps invite residents to the annual Toys For Tots Dance from 6–10 p.m. Saturday, December 3 in Pinckney Hall. The Bird Club is sponsoring the annual Christmas Bird Count in Sun City. The Christmas Bird Count, in association with the National Audubon Society, is the longest running citizen science project in the world, and the data is used for research on various topics, including climate change. The count will be held on Friday, December 16.  All Sun City residents are welcome to assist during the morning of the count. Celebrate the holidays with family and friends at Sun City restaurants. Jameson’s Charhouse will be open from noon–7 p.m. Christmas Day serving a plated holiday dinner. The Clubhouse at Okatie Creek will be closed on Christmas Day. Gifts cards are available and can be used at both locations.
