The Finance Committee will not meet Wednesday, November 16 as a result of the Annual Meeting of the Membership. The committee meeting is rescheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, November 17 in Hidden Cypress, Coosaw/New River Room.  
   
Don't Miss The Devil's Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith 
7 p.m. Saturday, November 12 at Magnolia Hall
Step back in time with “The Empress of Blues,” Bessie Smith, in a night of blues and jazz, taking you through the highs and lows of her journey in life. This play is an award-winning musical storytelling of the black musician who rose to fame and fortune despite living in the Jim Crow-era south. Lake Somerset Park Landscape Rejuvenation
Crews will begin landscape rejuvenation at Lake Somerset Park beginning Monday, November 14. Some of the work includes installing handicap accessible picnic tables and sidewalk rejuvenation. Portions of the park will be closed temporarily during the work. Please use caution in these areas.

Road Rejuvenation in Parking Lots
Crews have begun road rejuvenation in the parking lots at Hidden Cypress clubhouse, Okatie Creek clubhouse, New River Sports Park and Lake Somerset. Crews will only work on certain sections of each parking lot at a time so that the lots will not close completely. Please use caution when driving in these areas.

Registration Open for Mission: Slimpossible 2017

Six weeks to a better, healthier you begins in January 2017! Registration is now open for Mission: Slimpossible, a weight management and exercise program. Start your New Year off working with others to create new habits of eating less and exercising more. During the six weeks, class members will be given an unlimited class pass to take any group exercise class at no extra charge. Participants with the most percentage weight loss could win cash prizes! The challenge begins January 11, 2017 and ends February 17, 2017. Classes will be held at the Lakehouse Ballroom every Wednesday and Friday. Cost is $99. Pay Beaufort County Taxes in Pinckney Hall

9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 15 in Pinckney Hall

Beaufort County Treasurer’s Office representatives will accept property tax payments from residents who live in Beaufort County. Residents will be able to pay current and delinquent taxes on all property types, make redemption payments, make installment payments, apply for an installment program and submit address changes. Tax adjustments cannot be performed on-site.

Common Area Maintenance

Residents can use the Mulching Center, located on Red Dam Road next to the Golf Maintenance Yard, to dispose their yard debris and green waste. The center is open from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. every day. Access to the center is monitored by security cameras, and residents must use their activity cards to gain entrance.

Facilities Management

Nature Trail Update
Crews have removed several downed trees from the Nature Trail, and engineers and an insurance adjuster have observed the damage and are preparing reports. Repairs and completion timelines will follow after Facilities Management considers the recommendations. Completion dates for repairs are undetermined at this time. Your patience is appreciated as teams continue to repair the Nature Trail following the hurricane.

Diane Gibson had a hole-in-one November 3 at Okatie Creek Golf Course for 100 yards. She used a 6 hybrid. This event was witnessed by Anna Kelly, Rita Novack and Yvonne Cook.
 
Gary Welsh had a hole-in-one November 4 at Hidden Cypress Golf Course on hold 7 from 160 yards. He used a 5 iron. This event was witnessed by Bert Mainey, John Leitgeb and Bill Oremus.

Providing care for a family member in need is a centuries-old act of kindness, love and loyalty. Caregiving can take a heavy toll if you do not get adequate support. The group meets every last Wednesday of the month. This is a free forum facilitated by Tidewater Hospice.

All Sun City residents are invited to the Sun City Veterans Association’s Veterans Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, November 11 in the Magnolia Hall parking lot. This year’s ceremony will honor Korean War veterans. The guest speaker will be Lewis Vaughn, national director of the Korean War Veterans Association. There will be a special presentation of the Korean War Medal made to 25 Sun City Korean War veterans. The ceremony will feature the Veterans Association Color Guard and the Rudy Haumann Marching Unit.

Town Square Upbeats and the U.S. Marine Corps invite residents to the annual Toys For Tots Dance from 6–10 p.m. Saturday, December 3 in Pinckney Hall. Dance to the music of the Headliners, and dinner will be catered by Golden Corral. BYOB. Please bring a new unwrapped toy. Awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Participant parking is on a first-come first-served basis and the judging will be by participants and the public. Food will be available for purchase. The Sun City Softball Club’s Travel Softball Team invites all Sun City residents to cheer on the softball players during the two-day championship November 12-13 at the Softball Field on Red Dam Road. Challenging the Travel Team will be the North Charleston Patriots, the Sun City Carolina Lakes team, and the Peachtree City Allstar Team from Peachtree City, Georgia. The tournament will consist of six round-robin games beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 12 with hot dogs and beverages. Teams will be ranked according to their performances, and a three-game playoff series will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, November 13.

The Dog and Pet Lovers Club is hosting Hospice Care of the Lowcountry's Hos-Pets from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Tuesday, November 15 at the Dog Park. Join us for free hot dogs, doggie treats and learn more about these canine volunteers. Then come listen to Dr. Kim Carper of River Walk Animal Hospital discuss over-the-counter drugs and your pets at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 17 at Hidden Cypress.  All residents are welcome.

Sun City residents are invited to share in the holiday music as the Sun City Chorus and Concert Band presents A Holiday Fantasia at 7 p.m. December 1-3, and 2:30 p.m. December 4 at Magnolia Hall. Come and hear your friends and neighbors as they perform holiday music you know and love, ranging from the tunes of Irving Berlin to O Holy Night! Tickets are $23, available for purchase at the Magnolia Hall box office from 9–11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You may also purchase tickets by calling 368-3153 or emailing suncitytix@gmail.com. Tickets will be available one hour before show time if available.
 
The Bird Club is sponsoring the annual Christmas Bird Count in Sun City. The Christmas Bird Count, in association with the National Audubon Society, is the longest running citizen science project in the world, and the data is used for research on various topics, including climate change. The count will be held on Friday, December 16.  All Sun City residents are welcome to assist during the morning of the count. The Okatie Creek Duplicate Bridge Club is offering lessons for anyone who has not played bridge and would like to learn, or those who would like to brush up on their skills after years of not playing. Lessons involve hands-on learning through play of the hands. Come alone or with a partner. Lessons are $5 per session and will be held from 1–3 p.m. Saturdays through November 19 in the Card Room at the Yemassee Crafts Center.
