Annual Meeting of the Membership

1 p.m. Wednesday, November 16 at Magnolia Hall

Find out the results of the 2016 Community Elections at the Annual Meeting of the Membership.
 
Election Day Polling Information
The 2016 general election is Tuesday, November 8. Polling locations inside Sun City include Pinckney Hall, Hidden Cypress, Magnolia Hall and the Lakehouse. Polling locations will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. To find your voting precinct and voting location, visit www.scvotes.org.
 
You are required to provide a photo ID to vote in South Carolina.

Residents are advised that you may experience long lines at your polling locations. Please be patient as those ahead of you exercise their right to vote. If your county has a referendum included on the ballot, please be familiar with the issue before you arrive at your polling location to reduce wait times. You can find sample ballots that include your county’s referendums at
www.scvotes.org. Click “Get My Sample Ballot” to get started.
 
Residents may see campaign and political signs throughout the community on Tuesday, November 8. These signs were placed by Sun City’s Democratic and Republican Registered Community Groups and can remain on property from 5 a.m.–9 p.m. on Election Day. Please do not move or touch the signs; the respective groups will remove the signs at 9 p.m.  

   
Nature Trail Update 
Crews have removed several downed trees from the Nature Trail, and engineers and an insurance adjuster have observed the damage and are preparing reports. Repairs and completion timelines will follow after Facilities Management considers the recommendations. Completion dates for repairs are undetermined at this time. Your patience is appreciated as teams continue to repair the Nature Trail following the hurricane.

All Sun City residents who wish to be included in the next edition of the Resident Directory are encouraged to review and update your contact and personal information online by logging into this website by November 15. Follow the directions below to update your Resident Directory information online:
  • Log in to Resident Central with your Member ID and password.
  • Click “Tools.”
  • Click “Personal Profile.”
  • Under “Contact Info,” review your contact information and update as needed.
  • When finished updating contact information, click “Directory Listing.”
  • Click “Add Listing.”
  • Follow the five-step prompt to add contact and personal information for inclusion in the Resident Directory.
  • When complete, click “Finish.”
Your contact information will not be included in the Resident Directory unless you fill out information listed under “Contact Info” first, and then “Directory Listing.” For one-on-one help, Webhelp is available from 9 a.m.–noon every Friday in the Pinckney Hall Lobby.

Road Rejuvenation in Parking Lots
Crews will begin road rejuvenation in the parking lots at Hidden Cypress clubhouse, Okatie Creek clubhouse, New River Sports Park and Lake Somerset the week of Monday, November 7. Crews will only work on certain sections of each parking lot at a time so that the lots will not close completely. Please use caution when driving in these areas.

Registration Open for Mission Slimpossible 2017
Six weeks to a better, healthier you begins in January 2017! Registration is now open for Mission Slimpossible, a weight management and exercise program. Start your New Year off working with others to create new habits of eating less and exercising more. During the six weeks, class members will be given an unlimited class pass to take any group exercise class at no extra charge. Participants with the most percentage weight loss could win cash prizes! The challenge begins January 11, 2017 and ends February 17, 2017. Classes will be held at the Lakehouse Ballroom every Wednesday and Friday. Cost is $99. Sign up at the Lakehouse Fitness Center.

Chartered Club Mandatory Treasurer's Workshop

9–11 a.m. Monday, November 7 at Pinckney Hall
In this workshop, Mike Thomas will introduce and explain the revised CC90 form. Anna Maria Tabernick from the Finance Committee will also be present to answer questions. Attendance at one workshop is mandatory for all club treasurers (even if you have served as a treasurer before). The double issue of SunSations magazine returns for its second year! The December 2016 and January 2017 issues of SunSations will be combined into one special double issue, which will be delivered December 1. This magazine will cover three months of events and programming in Sun City, and will have a special section devoted to Sun City’s awesome neighborhoods. Pay Beaufort County Taxes in Pinckney Hall

9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 25 in Pinckney Hall

Beaufort County Treasurer’s Office representatives will accept property tax payments from residents who live in Beaufort County. Residents will be able to pay current and delinquent taxes on all property types, make redemption payments, make installment payments, apply for an installment program and submit address changes. Tax adjustments cannot be performed on-site.

Modifications Committee Meeting Schedule

The Modifications Committee will not meet Tuesday, December 20 or Tuesday, December 27. The committee will not meet on the third Tuesday through the rest of the year. Modification applications that require committee approval must be submitted by noon the Friday prior to the fourth Tuesday of the month.

Thanksgiving Office Hours
Community Association offices will be closed Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 in observance of Thanksgiving. There will be no eNews Weekly the week of Thanksgiving.
 

Common Area Maintenance

Residents can use the Mulching Center, located on Red Dam Road next to the Golf Maintenance Yard, to dispose their yard debris and green waste. The center is open from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. every day. Access to the center is monitored by security cameras, and residents must use their activity cards to gain entrance.

  • Enter your billing information; be sure to have your credit or debit card information available.

The Softball Club Coed League playoffs begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5 at the Softball Field. The semifinals begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 6. The Tuesday/Thursday League playoffs begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 8 with semifinals at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 9. Opening ceremonies for Softball Club championship day begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10. The Coed League championship game begins at 10 a.m. followed by the Tuesday/Thursday League championship game. Tuesday and Thursday will be hot dog days. Come support your Sun City softball players!

All Sun City residents are invited to the Sun City Veterans Association’s Veterans Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, November 11 in the Magnolia Hall parking lot. This year’s ceremony will honor Korean War veterans. The guest speaker will be Lewis Vaughn, national director of the Korean War Veterans Association. There will be a special presentation of the Korean War Medal made to 25 Sun City Korean War veterans. The ceremony will feature the Veterans Association Color Guard and the Rudy Haumann Marching Unit.
 
The Sun City Car Club is hosting its 15th annual car show from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, November 12. Awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Participant parking is on a first-come first-served basis and the judging will be by participants and the public. Food will be available for purchase. The Dog and Pet Lovers Club is hosting Hospice Care of the Lowcountry’s Hos-Pets from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Tuesday, November 15 at the Dog Park. Residents are invited to enjoy free hotdogs and dog treats for the pets, and to meet and learn more about these canine volunteers. Then, everyone is welcome to come out for the club’s meeting at 7 p.m. at Hidden Cypress to hear Dr. Kim Carper of River Walk Animal Hospital discuss over the counter drugs for your pets.

The Bird Club is sponsoring the annual Christmas Bird Count in Sun City. The Christmas Bird Count, in association with the National Audubon Society, is the longest running citizen science project in the world, and the data is used for research on various topics, including climate change. The count will be held on Friday, December 16.  All Sun City residents are welcome to assist during the morning of the count. The Okatie Creek Duplicate Bridge Club is offering lessons for anyone who has not played bridge and would like to learn, or those who would like to brush up on their skills after years of not playing. Lessons involve hands-on learning through play of the hands. Come alone or with a partner. Lessons are $5 per session and will be held from 1–3 p.m. Saturdays through November 19 in the Card Room at the Yemassee Crafts Center.
