 Storm Updates
All outdoor pools, except for the Lakehouse outdoor pool, will be closed Thursday, October 11 due to excessive amounts of storm debris and unbalanced chemicals as a result of the weather. Outdoor pools are expected to reopen Friday, October 12. All indoor pools are open.
 
Hidden Cypress and Okatie Creek Golf Courses will delay opening by one hour on Friday, October 12 to allow staff time to prepare the courses for play as they received an excessive amount of debris from Thursday’s storm. Argent Lakes tee times will remain as scheduled. Golfers can call the pro shops and listen to the recordings for other status updates.
 
The Nature Trail was damaged during the storm and will remain closed.
 
Local Waste Management branches were closed Thursday, October 11 as a result of the storm, and trash pick-up on all residential routes will be delayed by one day:
  • Thursday routes will be collected Friday, October 12
  • Friday routes will be collected Saturday, October 13

GBAC Hosts Beaufort County Councilman Jerry Stewart
10 a.m. Thursday, October 18 at Hidden Cypress, Ballroom
The Government and Business Affairs Committee Speakers Series will host Beaufort County Councilman Jerry Stewart. He will discuss the transportation sales tax referendum, the Critical Lands and Reserve referendum, school impact fees, road-related issues and the search for a Beaufort County administrator. There will be a question-and-answer session following his presentation. All Sun City residents are invited to attend.

Election 2018: Watch For Election Usernames and Passwords
Residents in 27 neighborhoods will vote electronically or cast a paper ballot to elect their Neighborhood Representatives (NR) and/or Alternate Neighborhood Representatives (ANR). There is no Board of Directors election this year. Click here for a list of voting neighborhoods and their candidates.
 
Only residents in the voting neighborhoods will receive communication with specific election details. Election usernames and passwords will be sent via email so that you can vote electronically. These emails will come from
contactus@schhca.com, and the subject line will indicate that the email is for the Sun City Community Election. Please be sure to monitor your junk email boxes for this email, and Hargray customers should be aware that they have a particularly strong spam filter. The Association has alerted Hargray about the number of incoming election emails for the community.
 
Residents with undeliverable email addresses or no email addresses will receive their voting information in the mail. If you receive election information in the mail, you still will have the ability to vote online.
 
Voting instructions will be included with your election username and password. Check the Election 2018 page on this website for the election timeline. Simply log into the community website and click “Election 2018” in the yellow navigation bar. There will be a link to the timeline on the Election page.

Applications Accepted for BAC Vacancies
Become a part of the heart and soul of Sun City Hilton Head by volunteering with a Board Appointed Committee (BAC).
 
Residents who call Sun City Hilton Head home come from all over the world and bring a wealth of unique skills and experience that would be of great benefit to the community. The Board of Directors encourages YOU to share your time, talent and expertise by volunteering to serve on a BAC.
 
The BACs consist of seven (7) members and two (2) alternates.

Sports Park Pickleball Courts Resurfacing
Due to inclement weather, the date to begin resurfacing the Pickleball Courts at the New River Sports Park will now be Friday, October 12. The Pickleball courts at Argent Lakes will remain open.

Argent Lakes Reopening and Spa Services Unveiling
2:30–4 p.m. Tuesday, October 16
Construction on the Lakehouse Day Spa is expected to be completed this week. Save the date for the unveiling event to find out more information about new spa treatments and meet the staff. Then head over to Argent Lakes Golf Course to learn about the bunker renovation and strategic tree placement.

Pine Straw Application for Argent II Neighborhoods
Contractors will be applying pine straw in developer installed beds only in Argent II managed neighborhoods beginning Monday, October 29. Additional pine straw sign up will begin in Palmetto Commons at the front desk Monday, October 8 for non-developer installed beds only. Additional pine straw order will be delivered, installed and invoiced to the resident by Summit Landscape Group after the contract straw is installation is completed. 
 
Villas & Cottages
In-contract pine straw application began at Villas and Cottages October 1. The scheduled route is listed below:
  1. Summerplace Village
  2. The Aviary
  3. Argent Place/Egret Cove
  4. Coastal Villas
  5. Seaford Place
  6. Live Oak Village
  7. The Preserve
  8. Andover Place
  9. Plymouth Lane
  10. Cypress Hollow
Please remove any ornaments or lighting that may interfere with the pine straw installation and replace them after installation. If crews feel that items are in their way, or could be damaged or disrupted, they may not get close to them. 
 
Rudy’s Tree Service will also begin tree trimming in Cypress Hollow and Plymouth Lane this month. Dates will be forthcoming.

Facilities Management

Fishing Temporarily Prohibited in Lagoon L-36
Please refrain from fishing in lagoon L-36 at Sun City Boulevard and Hampton Place, located in Hampton Village. Fishing is prohibited in this lagoon while it is treated for an invasive weed. This will help control the issue and prevent it from spreading to other lagoons.

Hole-In-One Reports
Dan Poisson had a hole-in-one September 30 at Okatie Creek Golf Course on hole 3 for 140 yards. He used an 8 iron. This event was witnessed by Jeff McGuire, Mike Boye and Andy Benton.
 
Tom Brunton had a hole-in-one October 6 at Hidden Cypress Golf Course on hole 2 for 119 yards. He used a 7 iron. This event was witnessed by Roy Scott, Ron Cook and Travis Robbins.
 
Chuck Smith had a hole-in-one October 8 at Okatie Creek Golf Course on hole 6 for 134 yards. He used a 6 iron. This event was witnessed by Tom Roberts and Richard Kemph.

Money Talks Club Presents Medicare 2019-Overview and Changes
The Money Talks Club will discuss Medicare 2019-Overview and Changes at 9 a.m. Monday, October 15 at Magnolia Hall. All Sun City residents are welcome to attend this presentation. Don Avedon will brief in two segments: (1) Overview of Medicare Parts A, B, C, D and MediGap supplements—their coverages and limitations; and (2) Changes in Part D, Prescription Drugs, where all important 2019 changes appear. Don will provide Part D updates to include deductible, initial coverage limits, and out of pocket threshold increases; and co-pay increases.

The Woodworkers & Modelmakers Guild is holding an open house at the woodshop at 841 Red Dam Road 10 a.m.–2 p.m. October 20. The Avant Gardeners Club hosts its 17th annual Sun City Garden Tour 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Monday, October 22. Tickets are $6 for club members and $9 for non-members. Car Club Hosts 17th Annual Car Show
The Sun City Car Club will hold its annual Car Show benefitting Staying Connected from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, October 27 in the Magnolia Hall parking lot, rain or shine. All are invited to stop by and see more than 100 collector cars, muscle cars, sports cars, hot rods and other unique vehicles. Trophies will be awarded. Admission is free.
